Middle Creek Mustangs - Wednesday, October 5 - home

Today is

Green Hope 3 vs. Middle Creek 2

The Falcons played at home twice in one week as they hosted Middle Creek for the second game, Wednesday. Middle Creek has yet to beat Green Hope, but their program is improving. In fact, during the last meeting, it took Green Hope overtime to pull out a 2-0 win.

The Falcons capitalized early as Evan Paussa fired a shot that the Middle Creek keeper could not hold on to, and Nick Roos was there to put the follow shot in the back of the net.

Middle Creek did not have many opportunities to score, but ended up scoring on an uncharacteristic misplay by the Falcon defense that left a 2v1 toward goal. Middle Creek tied it at 1-1. Middle Creek seized another Green Hope misplay in the back when a Falcon defender and the keeper failed to communicate on a back pass that resulted in another free opportunity for Middle Creek to score. 1-2 Middle Creek's favor.

Minutes before the half, Green Hope earned a penalty kick and Eric Butterly calmly buried it down the middle. 2-2. Mark Trawick made it 3-2 with an excellent turn in the box and a superb volley into the back of the net.

The second half did not have any scoring for either team. Middle Creek turned up the pressure, but Green Hope was able to hold on. Green Hope lacked creativity and composure in the second half and resorted to long balls down the field. While in the first half, the Falcons were able to keep possession, find the open player and penetrate the Mustang defense when the opportunity presented itself. Fortunately, the team was able to hold onto the win and improve their conference record to 4-3 and 8-4-2 overall.

Green Hope travels to Millbrook Monday for another non-conference clash.
