Green Hope 3 vs. Lee County 2
The last home game for the Falcons was on a cold windy night in
the lower 50s. This was the last time the 10 seniors would
play at Green Hope Stadium unless the team plays a lower seed in
the play-offs.
Tradition dictates that all of the seniors start on Senior night:
Jonathan Schwartz in goal, defenders: Eric Butterly and Eric Desloge;
midfielders: Pat Danford, Mark Trawick, Nate Dixon, Nick Roos and
Ryan Lockhart and forward, Evan Paussa. Sadly, Chris Girard could
not play.
The Falcons had success early as Taylor Estrada fed a perfect ball
into Evan Paussa who found the net within the first 3 minutes of
the game. GH was playing into a stiff wind and Lee County was able
to serve the ball in from the left flank that found an open player
on the back post. Lee County tied is up at 1-1. Green Hope scored
again as Evan Paussa got past the last defender and finished a fine
shot, 2-1 Green Hope. Ryan Dowd, a tough junior defender, went down
with an injury. Quickly after Ryan left the field, Lee County was
able to expose the right side of the Falcon defense and tie the
score at 2-2.
The half ended at 2-2 and the seniors were recognized during the
break. Overall, the Falcons were playing very well. They distributed
the ball well. Their forwards were making the correct runs, checking
and laying the ball off perfectly and the midfield was not holding
onto the ball too long and showed patience and vision in their buildup.
The second half started and Green Hope was with the wind. Green
Hope got a hat trick from Evan Paussa as he followed up a shot and
tapped it in the back of the net, 3-2. Lee County had a few chances,
but Jon Schwartz gobbled them up and the defense held firm to produce
a second half clean sheet. The Falcons had 18 shots to Lee County's
7.
The game was marred by 10 cautions and one red card. Several players
from both teams had to leave the field for various injuries. Luckily,
none of the injuries seemed extremely serious and Green Hope prepares
for a tough Athens Dr. team on Wednesday.
Green Hopes record now stands at 11-6-2 overall and 6-5 in
the conference.
