Leesville Road Pride - Wednesday, August 24 - away

Today is

Green Hope 2 @ Leesville Road 1

Green Hope traveled to the site where they ended their season last year with a 0-2 loss in the state semi-finals. However, in 2005, the Falcons were able to avenge that loss with a strong 2-1 win.

The Falcons made some adjustments to their line-up moving Thomas Lindsey from center midfield to right midfield and moving Martin Murphy from forward to midfield. Nick Roos earned the start at striker after a good performance on Monday at Jordan High School.

Green Hope had numerous chances during the game with Nick Roos just missing the target from short range, Evan Paussa with several shots on goal, Nate Dixon with a quick burst down the line, Ryan Lockhart with a strong header on frame on a corner, Ryan Dowd with an open opportunity, and numerous opportunities in the last 5 minutes of the match.

Green Hope opened the scoring with a superb build up culminating with a clean serve from Ryan Lockhart to Nick Roos who buried the shot in the lower right hand corner. Ten minutes later, Martin Murphy played a laser of a ball to Evan Paussa on the run and Evan put it in the back of the net.

The Green Hope defense was again stellar and did not give up a goal in the run of play. A handball call resulted in a penalty kick awarded to Leesville Road. Leesville executed the kick and the score was Green Hope 2 - Leesville Road 1.

Jonathan Schwartz played unreal in goal. Jon had a world-class save on a free-kick heading to the upper right hand corner that he was able to parry over the bar after flying across the goal. He stopped several opportunities with clean saves and his reactions were sharp!

Leesville Road made some strategic moves near the end of the game trying to tie the score, but the Falcons bunkered in and stopped the attack. Moreover, Green Hope was able to counter attack and create some good scoring opportunities while Leesville was on the offensive.

The Falcons get ready for a challenge next week with Wakefield, Sanderson and Durham Jordan.

Stay tuned as the season unfolds!
