Wakefield Wolverines - Monday, August 29 - home

Today is

Green Hope 2 vs. Wakefield 1

Green Hope played their first home game after accumulating a 1-0-1 record on the road. Wakefield came to Falcon Stadium with a 3-0 record and had not surrendered a goal in their 3 wins.

The game opened with Mark Trawick having a chance 5 yards in front of the goal within the first 2 minutes, only to have the Wakefield keeper make the save. Green Hope was able to get on the board with a shot taken by Evan Paussa that was deflected into the goal, 1-0.

Ryan Dowd learned a valuable lesson from a game at Leesville where he had the ball 10 yards from goal and hesitated in shooting. This week, Ryan got an opportunity 20 yards from goal and never had a second thought, he took a super shot on net that fooled the Wakefield goalie. 2-0 Green Hope on top!

The second half was very disjointed and lacked rhythm. The Falcons, holding onto a 2-0 lead dropped into a more defensive posture by withdrawing a forward and adding a defender. The tactic seemed to secure the win, but made the attacking transition difficult for the team. Green Hope held on for the 2-0 win.

The game was a little sloppy as Green Hope was unable to hold the ball at the top of the field for the supporting midfielders. Wakefield had several talented players who were able to make some penetrating runs, but their efforts were eventually thwarted by the Seniors on defense: Eric Butterly, Eric Desloge, Mark Trawick and Mark Girard. If Wakefield was able to push any further, Jonathan Schwartz was there to save the day time and again.

Green Hope travels to Sanderson on Tuesday, August 30 for another non-conference test.
