Green Hope 2 at Middle Creek 0
Green Hope traveled to Holly Springs Monday to face a much-improved
Middle Creek team. This was the first conference game of the year
for either school and winning the conference games is vitally important
to qualify for the State play-offs with the new qualification system.
Green Hope played one of their best games to date; however the
score did not reflect their good performance. Offensively, Martin
Murphy, Evan Paussa and Nate Dixon had several opportunities to
score but came up a bit short. GH played very strong team defense,
limiting the Mustangs to a few scant chances and harmless free kicks.
Jon Schwartz earned yet another shutout and made a few crucial saves.
Green Hope had some opportunities to score during regulation on
several free-kicks and corners. The Falcons rocked the cross-bar
once in the second half, but the go ahead goal wasn't in the cards.
Regulation time expired and the game proceeded to two 10-minute
overtime periods to be played in their entirety. Green Hope went
up early with a service into Martin Murphy, who flicked it onto
Taylor Estrada streaking down the wing. Taylor beat two players
in the corner and served a fine cross to Thomas Lindsey, who calmly
headed the ball into the corner of the goal. 1-0 GH.
A few minutes later, Evan Paussa continued his goal scoring prowess
as he beat the last defender to a ball played by Thomas Lindsey
and fired it into the right hand corner of the net. 2-0 GH.
The Falcons looked strong in their first conference game as they
had more patience during the buildup and did a great job of defending
as a team. Green Hope hosts perennial Cap-6 powerhouse Millbrook
on Wednesday, September 14th, weather permitting.
