Green Hope 1 vs. Millbrook 1
The Falcons rescheduled their game against Millbrook from Wednesday
to Thursday thanks to a threatening Ophelia, which never really
made it to the Triangle.
GH gave a strong effort but lacked focus, precision and the technique
to beat Millbrook. The Falcons dominated possession and chances
on goal, but continuously squandered opportunities and gave up possession
frequently due to lackadaisical passing and movement off of the
ball.
The Wildcats got on the board first as a GH midfielder held the
ball a second too long in the back third of the field and had it
stolen by the Millbrook opponent. They served the ball quickly in
the 6-yard box to a loosely marked Wildcat player who knocked it
past a defenseless Jonathan Schwartz. 0-1
The second half started with the Falcons down 0-1 and on the attack.
The team pushed into a more attacking formation, but continued to
be bitten by the poor passing bug and found it hard to find the
equalizer. With just 10 minutes to play, freshman Martin Murphy
received the ball with his back to the goal 25 yards away. Martin
made a quick turn and fired a left-footed shot that found the upper
corner of the net! 1-1! Way to go Martin, weve been waiting
for you to unleash that rocket shot of yours for 7 games!!
With less than 2 minutes to play, Mark Trawick played a swerving
cross to the back post which Evan Paussa was able to catch up to
and redirect to goal from 3 yards out. Unfortunately, the Millbrook
goalkeeper was perfectly positioned and made a great save. Time
expired with a 1-1 draw. Evan continues to emerge as a scoring threat
with several good shots and strong work on the ball to create chances.
The Falcons were unable to take advantage of some very good opportunities
on free-kicks, thus restarts will be a focus for their next few
sessions as will the need to be more precise in passing and finishing.
Green Hope returns to Tri-7 conference play next week with games
against Fuquay Varina and highly ranked Cary.
