Lee County Yellow Jackets - Wednesday, September 28 - away

Today is

Green Hope 2 at Lee County 0

Green Hope traveled on their longest trip of the year to Tri-7 foe, Lee County. Green Hope, coming off back-to-back losses, an extreme rarity for the Falcon program, were looking to get back on the winning track. In addition, the last time Green Hope traveled to Lee County in 2004, the Falcons suffered a humiliating 6-1 loss.

Green Hope came out quickly and with resolve. Evan Paussa had a breakaway within the first 4 minutes. Evan decided to shoot from distance, which the keeper saved. The Falcons continued to pour on the pressure. John Hindman, Pat Danford and several other Falcons had quality chances to capitalize.

Following one of the attacks, GH earned a corner. Eric Butterly served another precise ball that John Hindman put in the back of the net. 1-0 Green Hope. Hindman followed up his goal with another shortly thereafter with a nice shot on net. 2-0 GH. Throughout the first half the Falcons had a lot of time to play the ball and the defense held Lee County to long-range shots. Jonathan Schwartz made a great save - knocking the ball over the bar from a shot 23 yards from goal.

The team stepped onto the field after the halftime break with a couple scary thoughts: last year it was 1-1 at the half and 2-0 is the most deceiving lead in soccer. Lee County changed strategy a little and started sending everyone forward. Green Hope countered by dropping a forward back into midfield. However, the new formation for the Falcons was a little disorganized as communication broke down or was nonexistent, leading to Lee County players being left unmarked. However, the resolve and determination of GH kept the score at 0 for Lee County.

The Falcons were able to get some counterattack chances with the attack minded Lee County team. John Hindman had a hat-trick on a platter for the taking, but just missed the cross. Pat Danford had several chances that missed the target and Ryan Dowd made a superb run, beating 4 players in the box only to knock the shot a foot wide.

The physical match ended with Green Hope winning 2-0.

The Falcons improve their record to 7-3-2 and 3-2-0 in the conference. The team plays Athens Drive at home Monday, October 3rd. Athens Dr. is tied with Green Hope for 3rd in the conference and this is a must win to have a chance at playing in the state play-offs.
