Green Hope JV 0 vs. Apex JV 2 - October 19
The Green Hope Falcons finally get a chance to feel what it’s
like to be on the other end. For the first time this season the
Falcons are shutout. The two goals by Apex equals the most scored
on Green Hope in any game this year.
Green Hope JV 2 vs. Cary JV 2 - October 17
Green Hope dominates most of the first half of play but manages
only a 1-1 tie on a goal by Justin Smith. The assist is from Ryan
Sullivan, Green Hope is tentative in the second half as Cary steps
up its intensity. Zach Steele gives Green Hope a temporary 2-1 lead
off the nice assist from Chad Drimer, but Cary will manage another
goal and a 2-2 tie. Green Hope's chances of finishing at the top of
the conference are now remote, but an important matchup with Apex on
Thursday still leaves plenty of opportunity for redemption.
Green Hope JV 3 vs. Fuquay Varina JV 0 - October 12
Green Hope sets the table for next weeks big games with some final
preparations, a 3-0 win over Fuquay-Varina. John Lawler, Dexter
Garner and Justin Smith all knock it into the net. The Falcons play
Apex and Cary next week with at least a share of the conference
lead still attainable.
Green Hope JV 1 vs. Millbrook JV 0 - October 10
The Falcons receive bad news that Ryan McDonnell is out for the
season with a lacerated spleen. The good news is Ryan is safe and
will make a full recovery. Get well soon Ryan and take good care
of yourself so youll be ready for a run at varsity next season!
More bad injury news to start off the nights game, Kyle
Bandy goes down hard and early word is that his collarbone is likely
broken. A top defender and an explosive offender, gone in one week!
The rain and Millbrook combine to hold the Falcons scoreless until
late in the game. Thats when Nick Butterlys mom sets
things up by calling from the stands for Nick to quit playing
around with it. Nick responds with a furious smack
on the ball in the box. 1-0 Green Hope wins again!
Green Hope JV 1 vs. Middle Creek JV 1 - October 5
The Green Hope JVs run into an inspired bunch from Middle
Creek with a goalie who manages to be in the right place at the
right time
over and over again. The Falcons unleash a flurry
of unsuccessful shots at the Middle Creek goal while MC can muster
just one in the first half and it counts! Green Hope counters with
another flurry in the second go round and at least one of Kyle Bandys
excellent shots does duck under the bar for a score. The final score
is 1-1. Coach John Green
We controlled the game we just
couldnt score. Nuff said.
Green Hope JV 5 vs. Lee County JV 0 - September 28
Green hope scores early and often at Lee County. Jared Dapkevich
hits a hard knuckler from the right side that finds the net for
a 1-0 Falcon lead. Stephen Clowes puts plenty of force behind his
shot as well and the Lee County keeper can do nothing but slow it
down as it too finds the net
2-0 Green Hope. Trace Altman
unleashes a flurry of moves that enable him to get the ball onto
his right foot for the shot and the 3-0 lead at the half.
With little more than a minute gone in the second half Ryan McDonnell
breaks free for a 1-2. He breaks past the defender easily and the
keeper is no match alone. Ryans shot makes it 4-0 Green Hope
and coach Green immediately shakes up his lineup on the field to
reduce the scoring. Taylor Erwin ruins the plan with a header in
his first action of the season at forward. His goal is the last
of the game. Green Hope 5- Lee County 0. The Falcons are 11-1-0.
Green Hope JV 0 vs. Apex JV 1 - September 26
The battle of unbeatens came down to one play - and Apex pulled off
a sweet slot pass to score the only goal of the contest.
Green Hope and Apex battle for more than 35-minutes with neither
team scoring a goal. Ryan McDonald almost got one in midway through
the second half, but it hit the left post and ricocheted across
and just outside of the right post. Then with only a few minutes
to play, an Apex midfielder breezed his way into scoring position
with a run at the throat of the Green Hope defense. He let go
of a touch pass at the moment Green Hopes defenseman came
up to make the play and an Apex forward was left alone for a one on
one that he tapped past Green Hope keeper Alex Long. The first goal
scored on Long this season was enough for the Cougars to win the
game 1-0.
Falcon head coach John Green thought his team was flat
in the first half. I thought we played some good soccer in
the second half, but Green also added that his players might
have been trying too hard to move the ball forward on offense, and
they got away from their usual passing game. It seemed at times
there were no triangles to be found. Apex stays unbeaten
with one tie against Broughton. Green hope is now 10-1.
Green Hope JV 2 vs. Cary JV 0 - September 21
There is no margin for error when the Green Hope and Cary JV teams
get together. Fast and physical play on both sides leads to a scoreless
tie at the half. Green Hope begins to assert itself in the second
half with greater possession time and the Falcons are prepared to
capitalize when those rare Cary errors present themselves. Just
one minute into the second half John Lawler gets the ball to a streaking
Ryan McDonald who spanks one wide from the left side of the box.
Ten minutes into the action Zach Steele breaks out the left foot,
nailing a beauty into the upper right quadrant for a 1-0 Green Hope
lead. Another Steele rod, is in the works for the Imps
later in the game, this time its Zachs brother Ryan with a
laser beam header high and left just under the bar. Justin Smith
gets credit for the assist off the corner kick. The Cary defense
had allowed only two goals all season prior to the night,
but gives up two to the Steele family in less than 15-minutes. Coach
John Green was all smiles after seeing the brothers Steele,
score in the same game for the first time ever ,You cant
get any better than that, both of them upper 90s!
Green Hope improves to 10-0-0 with the 2-0 win over Cary. The Falcons
have now outscored their opponents 22-1
Green Hope JV 2 vs. Fuquay-Varina JV 0 - September 19
The Green Hope JV’s rack up their ninth win of the season with yet
another shutout! The offense comes near the end of the first half moments
after coach John Green sends in the second wave. Chris Robison launches
two wonderful crosses into the box after taking long passes from Ryan
Sullivan in mid-field. Both of Robison’s feeds from the corner find the
feet of Green Hope strikers. Trace Altman and Stephen Clowes get all the
goals necessary as Alex Long gets his eighth shutout in goal. The Green
Hope JV’s are unbeaten, untied and only once scored upon (9-0-0)! Up
next, the unbeaten Cary JV’s (5-0-1).
