Durham Jordan Falcons - Monday, August 21 - home

Today is

Green Hope 1 vs. Durham-Jordan 2

The Green Hope Falcons opened their season at home with a 2-1 loss to Durham Jordan. Green Hope started 7 seniors and 4 sophomores. Jordan opened the scoring with a goal on a free-kick that was inadvertently headed in by a Green Hope defender. Green Hope countered with a goal off a corner that was pounced on by JP Lebiecz and touched into the corner of the net.

In the second half, a Green Hope defender lost possession in the mid-field and Jordan countered. Durham took a hard shot from the top of the penalty box that was nicely saved by Eric Santilli, but an unfortunate rebound fell to the foot of a Jordan player who out-hustled the GH defense to put away the go ahead goal.

Of note, Ryan Dowd was spectacular anchoring the back line, Nick Butterly showed improvement and maturity to win several balls and play clean passes and Taylor Estrada had numerous shots from outside. The Falcons showed great resolve as they tried to equalize in the last 10 minutes with substantial pressure, but it was not to be. The early season average fitness level and lack of precision passing limited the team's ability to create a great chance to tie it up.

The Falcons will attempt to even their record at 1-1 when they battle Leesville Road at Green Hope Stadium on Wednesday.
