Green Hope 0 vs. Cardinal Gibbons 1
Green Hope played in the Brittany Showcase in Wilson, NC against
Cardinal Gibbons. Cardinal Gibbons left with a 1-0 win over the
Falcons.
The Falcons, missing 4 players away for Region III Premier League
commitments, played very well. The team, working on several topics
the past two weeks, is starting to understand some the concepts
and making the game much easier for themselves. Of note, Eric "Frommy"
Fromwiller stepped in and did a fantastic job in the back. Ryan
Dowd, Nick Butterly, Jared Dapkevich and Kyle Bandy all made it
difficult for Gibbons to score. In goal, Eric Santilli thwarted
several chances.
On attack, Taylor Estrada, the team's leading scorer had the best
chance for a goal on a one-on-one, but the ball never settled for
him to slot it in the corner and he settled for a shot to the keeper.
The Falcons are still in search of a forward that can produce. After
three games, no forward has scored, except for Estrada, who typically
plays midfield, but moved up top during the absence of Martin Murphy.
The Falcons were lucky not to go down 0-2 as a Cardinal Gibbons
player missed the goal on a penalty kick. Kyle Bandy had a solid
rip from 25 yards that the Gibbons keeper bobbled but finally secured.
Unfortunately, the Falcon's lost JP Lebiecz for 4-6 weeks with
a fractured ankle. JP has been on Varsity for three years and was
just getting into a nice groove when he suffered the injury. The
team wishes you a speedy recovery, JP, you'll be missed.
Green Hope is very close to breaking through with some great wins
as the team continues to make large strides. The week of Aug 28th
should be exciting as the team takes on Wakefield Monday and tries
to avenge an earlier loss to Jordan on Wednesday.
