Green Hope 5 vs. Wakefield 2
Green Hope traveled to Wakefield to take on the undefeated Wolverines. Green
Hope started out with a high percentage of possession in the Wakefield half of
the field and looked to be in control. However, Wakefield took the ball down
the right side of the field 5 minutes into the game and crossed it in the box
to an unmarked player. He played a shot in that was parried to the side and
followed up on by his teammate and knocked in for the Wakefield lead 1-0.
Another disappointing start as the team has given up a goal in the first 5 minutes,
3 of 4 games.
Green Hope woke up and turned on the engine. The team responded well as John
Hindman tied the score at 1-1 after a nice flick by Martin Murphy. Speaking of Mr.
Murphy, he returned from a trip to the UK and this was his first game of the year
for the Falcons. His contribution was immediate with 2 goals and an assist. Not only
that, he made the players around him better by always being available, providing
precise passing and constant communication.
Hindman was probably the biggest benefactor of Martin's return as the double teams
and pressure were relieved from Hindman and he was able to get two goals. Justin
"California" Taylor put one in the back of the net with a left footed blast to cap the
scoring at 5.
The midfield and defense did a super job and kept possession of the ball.
Unfortunately, Wakefield was able to slip in behind the defense to put another one
away to finish out the game with the score 5-2.
The team is starting to come together and make the game easier for each other. The
injury bug has started to creep into the squad as several players have issues such as
a broken ankle, strep throat, a pulled muscle, a bruised quadriceps and a sore back.
Thankfully, the team is solid from top to bottom and players are ready and more than
able to contribute when called upon.
The team faces Jordan on Wednesday as they try to avenge the loss from the first game
of the season. Then, a much needed rest is in store for the Labor Day weekend. Go Falcons.
