Fuquay Varina Bengals - Monday, September 25 - home

Today is

Green Hope 1 vs. Fuquay Varina 0

Green Hope hosted Tri-8 Conference foe Fuquay Varina on Wednesday. Fuquay had a host of younger talent in 2005 and the 2006 squad has high hopes as those youngsters emerge.

Early in the game, Green Hope established a great rhythm. The movement off the ball, passing and communication was fantastic. Most of the possession was in the FV half of the field and anything that came near the GH goal was quickly cleared by keeper Alex Long.

Green Hope created numerous chances that were just wide or saved by the large FV keeper. Finally, John Hindman received a nice pass from Justin Chandler, beat his man, and buried a shot in the corner for the 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Falcons continued their good play. Of note, Kyle Bandy was serving some wonderful balls in the box and Nick Butterly was acting like a top point guard in the NBA with his effective passing and transition abilities. Overall, the defense gave FV very few chances with only 1 shot and 1 corner allowed all game.

Unfortunately, the final pass for the Falcons was a little off and frustration started to mount. Several golden opportunities were squandered. Several players off the bench tried to light a fire and finish some of the scoring chances, but it was no easier for the fresh legs to put the ball in the back of the net. Time expired and the Falcons had the 1-0 conference win.

The team is playing well and understanding the concepts of Falcon soccer. Soon the ball will find the back of the net more often and the team will peak just at the right time. The last half of the season looks bright and the Falcons should compete for the Conference Championship if all goes as planned!
