Lee County Yellow Jackets - Wednesday, September 27 - away

Today is

Green Hope 4 @ Lee County 0

Green Hope traveled to Lee County on Wednesday night for another conference match. Lee County stadium has been the site of some great wins and some tough losses in the past for the Falcons.

With the team just past the halfway point of the season and only 9 games to go, it is important to start to play at a consistent level each game and continue to gel.

The Falcons started the game with high intensity, but the precision and focus were not where they need to be. The play was a little too slow and the lackadaisical passing and finishing was tough to watch. However, GH kept 80% of the possession in the first half and Lee County only crossed midfield a few times. Although they created numerous chances, the Falcons rushed their finishing and consequently hit the post, kicked it over the goal and missed wide on many occasions. Finally, Kyle Bandy headed home the first goal of the game off of a super cross by Taylor Estrada and the Falcons were up 1-0. Just before the half, keeper Alex Long was tested on a one-on-one where the Lee County player tried to chip him. Long was up to the task as he stretched for a tip on the ball and was able rush back to goal to save the ball from crossing the line.

The Falcons made no line-up adjustments for the start of the second half, but did talk about ways to capitalize on their opportunities. Taking advantage of the massive amounts of room in the midfield to create better runs from the attacking players, the Falcons instantly found success as Martin Murphy received a through ball from John Hindman and found the net with a classic striker's goal: calmly side-footing it into the corner of the net - there is nothing sweeter! Murphy then scored again off a corner kick from Estrada.

Estrada then wrapped up the scoring as he took out the frustrations of his recent shooting woes with a rocket to the back of the net. 4-0 Falcons. Of note, Ryan McDonnell surprised all with his innate ability to play left back and many others played well in new positions. Chao Han, Zack Query and Ryan Dowd were unlucky not to net goals.

The Falcons have back to back games next week with two CRITICAL conference games at home. Tuesday, Athens Drive comes to Falcon Stadium with a solid conference record. Then, the following day, Wednesday, Middle Creek comes to Falcon stadium riding high from their overtime win against Green Hope two weeks ago and their recent 1-0 defeat of Athens.
