Green Hope 4 vs. Middle Creek 1
Green Hope hosted Middle Creek on Wednesday night for the rematch
of an earlier game that saw Middle Creek beat Green Hope for the
first time ever (10 games), a 2-1 overtime win for the Mustangs
at Middle Creek.
The Falcons only blemish on their conference record is the one
loss to Middle Creek and the boys were fired up with pride to avenge
the loss. Early in the game, John Hindman received a nice ball from
Kyle Bandy down the left hand side. John beat his player and played
a deceptive shot that beat the Middle Creek keeper.
Middle Creek tied the score at 1 with a shot from the left side
of the box that surprised keeper Alex Long to the near post. 1-1.
Green Hope made some adjustments at the half and the players made
a commitment to each other to elevate their game. Fortunately, the
boys were true to their word and they played much better with purpose
and direction. Some wonderful build up occurred and the boys started
to expose the midfield and flanks of Middle Creek. During one of
the build-ups the ball was played down the right side. Several players
assisted in getting it to the back post on the left and John Hindman
made the flick to Justin "California" Taylor who made
a wonderful chest trap to get it to his left foot and he volleyed
it with gusto into the back of the net. 2-1 Green Hope.
Green Hope continued to press and the game got a little chippy.
Green Hope earned a free kick from about 30 yards away and Taylor
Estrada stepped up to take it. As Middle Creek set up the wall,
Ryan Dowd approached Estrada to whisper something into Estrada's
ear. Estrada nodded then shot a viciously dipping ball over the
wall and over the keeper's head for the 3-1 lead. We don't know
what Dowd told Estrada, but we'll give Dowd the "verbal"
assist! 3-1 Green Hope.
Finally, with about 14 minutes to play, Nick Butterly played a
ball in deep to the right side for Martin Murphy, who streaked to
goal and
buried a rocket into the back of the net from about 15 yards. 4-1
Green Hope.
A great second half performance from the Falcons who extend their
unbeaten streak to 8 games. The team travels to Panther Creek on
Monday for the rematch of their earlier game. Panther Creek is loaded
with young talent and will give Green Hope a tremendous challenge.
Green Hope's record stands at 10-3-1 and 6-1-1 in conference play.
