Green Hope 8 vs. Lee County 2
Green Hope hosted the Lee County Yellow Jackets for their final
home game of the regular season on Monday. In addition, the Falcons
celebrated Senior Night.
As tradition dictates, all 10 Seniors started the game. Senior
goalkeeper Eric Santilli decided he wanted to play forward for his
Senior game, thus leaving Alex Long, the only non-senior, to start
in goal.
The line-up: Forwards: Eric Santilli and John Hindman; Midfielders:
Michael Fox, Justin Chandler, Taylor Estrada and Bryan Moon; Defenders:
Eric Fromwiller, Thomas Lindsey, Ryan Dowd and J.P. Lebiecz.
The game started with temperatures in the high 40's and a cold
wind. Green Hope came out fast and furious with a determination
to enjoy their special evening. Bryan Moon served the ball to Eric
Santilli who scored the first goal of the night (1-0). Not bad for
the goalkeeper to notch a goal in the first 5 minutes. Bryan Moon
scored next with an assist from John Hindman (2-0). Hindman notched
another assist as Santilli scored his second of the night (3-0).
Then, Santilli shot from the right corner and missed, but Michael
Fox finished off the cross with a nice finish in the back of the
net (4-0). Hindman served another beauty up for Moon, who notched
his second of the night (5-0).
In the second half, many players switched positions. The forwards
switched with the defenders and the midfield was moved around a
little. Thomas Lindsey notched a goal on a great service from Fox
(6-0). Hindman served another super ball to Ryan Dowd and Dowd finished
it for 7-0. Finally, Taylor Estrada served one to J.P. Lebiecz for
the final Green Hope goal to make it 8-0.
The Falcons let some field players play in goal for a while with Alex
Long providing the extra jerseys (and I am sure his Mom will appreciate
having to wash 5 jerseys). Nick Butterly replaced Long after
30 minutes, then Ryan McDonnell replaced Butterly. McDonnell allowed
one late goal on a break-away. Then Justin Smith stepped in goal
and sloshed around for the last few minutes, allowing a last Lee County
goal for the 8-2 final score.
Green Hope finishes out the regular season Wednesday at Athens
Dr. The forecast is for another cold night and the Falcons hope
to freeze out Athens before the play-offs. The Falcons record is
14-4-1 and 10-2-1 in the Tri-8 conference.
