Blood, Guts and Glory
Green Hope started the game with a majority of the possession and really fired up for the win.
Green Hope looked good and was in control of possession and Middle Creek rarely crossed midfield. However, with
about 10 minutes left in the half, a Green Hope player was disposed in their own half, the Middle Creek player played
it down the wing, crossed to the top of the 18, where the central Middle Creek player won the ball away from a Green Hope
defender and shot it into the corner of the net. Green Hope 0- Middle Creek 1.
The half ended with Green Hope pressing but no goals for their efforts. Possession had to be 75/25 in Green Hope's favor,
but possession doesn't win games, the ball in the opponents net and out of your own wins games.
After a spirited half-time discussion, Green Hope tried hard to equalize. 10 minutes into the half, Kyle Bandy collided
with the Middle Creek keeper and Kyle was treated for a laceration to his head and was no longer able to play. After play
resumed, Stephen Clowes received a cross from Martin Murphy and Stephen put his attempt on frame where the goalkeeper misplayed it
and the ball fell in the net. Green Hope 1-Middle Creek 1.
A few minutes later, Justin Smith served a ball from a corner kick to a wide open Zach Steele. Zach headed it back into the
box, where Magnus Sorensen tapped it into the net. Green Hope 2- Middle Creek 1.
Kyle Bandy (the blood) was fine after some medical treatment. The team fought back from being down 0-1 after giving up a
disappointing goal to come back to win the game in the second half (guts). Finally, Alex Long responded positively to a first half
error to keep a clean sheet in the second half (the Glory)!
Green Hope faces Durham Jordan on Wednesday at 6:30 PM at home.
