Green Hope 2 vs. Durham Jordan 1
Green Hope played a rare Thursday night home game against 4th ranked Durham-Jordan. Jordan was undefeated
entering the match with ties against Broughton and Green Hope.
The game started out a little sluggish as Green Hope took about 15 minutes to gain their composure. Jordan
kept the ball in Green Hope's half of the field a lot and Green Hope struggled to find open players and their touch.
Both teams had chances to score, but the half ended 0-0.
In the second half, Green Hope was much more in sync. Some halftime ideas were exchanged between the coaches and
others offered by the players. The result, the team maintained more possession in the second half and was able to get more
penetration, thus create more chances to score. The thing that concerned the team from the first half was the number of players
Jordan sent forward after the ball was turned over.
15 minutes into the second half, Green Hope won the ball in Jordan's half and Jared Girad played a nicely weighted pass to
Martin Murphy, who beat a Jordan player hanging off of him to score the game's first goal. Soon thereafter, Jared Dapkevich played
a ball into a gap where Stephen Clowes ran onto it and finished it past the keeper for the 2-0 lead .
Jordan had several chances to score, but fantastic goalkeeping by Alex Long, good recovery defending and a wee-bit of luck kept
Jordan out of the goal. Jordan had several one-on-ones, a mad scramble in the box and a few missed shots.
With 30 seconds to go, Jordan got the ball in the box, several Green Hope players were around it to clear it, but one just
caught a Jordan player and tripped him. Jordan broke the shutout . Just after the kick-off the time expired. |
