Green Hope 0 vs. Apex 0
Green Hope welcomed their cross-town rival, Apex, Monday night for a much-anticipated Tri-8 conference match. Green Hope is ranked #3 in the
State and Apex is ranked #2.
Within 3 minutes of the kick-off Apex split the Green Hope central defense
and gave up a one-on-one. Alex Long rushed off his line and forced the Apex
player to shoot over the goal. A scary start, but soon Green Hope settled down
and was playing well and creating numerous chances. However, both teams could
not find the net and the half ended 0-0.
In the second half, Green Hope started out on fire. They created about 7
quality chances, but the Apex keeper was having a great night and the Green Hope
team was just missing the target or not able to find the corners. Apex had some chances of their own, but Green Hope's net minder, Alex Long was having a great
night as well.
After full time and two 10 minute overtime periods, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Green Hope felt as they had more chances to win the game, but the bottom line is they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and the game was a tie. To advance throughout the season the team must be able to find the net when it matters. Possession, chances, pretty play and superior skill all sound good, but the ONLY measure that counts is the scoreboard at the end of the game. The Falcons will find the net soon and games like the one against Apex tonight are the experiences needed to have a great season.
The Falcons face Tri-8 foe Cary on Wednesday night.
