Green Hope 7 vs. Fuquay Varina 0
Green Hope hosted Fuquay Varina on Tuesday night. Fuquay has enjoyed a great season, however has been hampered by the injury bug. Five of their top 11 players
are missing due to various injuries.
Green Hope had one of their best nights to date. The team played with one more attacking player for the first time this year and the results were immediate.
Martin Murphy was sprung through the FV defense twice and placed a superb shot on frame only to be saved by the FV keeper; but both times, the rebound fell to Justin Taylor for the first 2 goals of the game.
Nick Butterly played a ball to Magnus Sorensen, who exploited the space available and hit a rocket from 25 yards that dented the post and ricocheted off the back of the goalie for the 3-0 lead. Justin Smith came off the bench and made an immediate impact by playing a perfectly weighted ball to Stephen Clowes, who, in his own right has been exceptional so far in 2007, Stephen slotted it for the 4-0 lead. Smith then played a swerving corner to Kyle Bandy, who side footed it to the side netting for the 5-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, Ryan Steel fed Justin Taylor for the sixth goal and "JT" recorded the first Hat-trick of 2007. Way to go JT! Kyle Bandy got his second of the night when Ryan McDonnell played him a deceiving little pass for the seventh goal of the night.
The team played with exceptional touch and speed. Alex Long made a critical save in the second half diving to his right and deflecting the ball over the goal with his left hand. 17 players saw the field for GH and the level of play never dropped off in any circumstance. Overall, an exceptional performance for the Green Hope boys and another positive step in the pathway of the 2007 season.
