| Fuquay Varina 1 vs Green Hope 3
Green Hope traveled to Fuquay Varina for the second game of the Tri-8 series.
The Falcons looked sharp early and Justin Taylor hit the cross bar within 5 minutes and the Falcons were putting on the pressure.
Save after save the Fuquay keeper kept the Falcons at bay. Following a save, Fuquay's keeper hit a long punt and the two central Green Hope defenders didn't communicate as it was coming out of the air and almost collided to head the ball. One went to head it and the other was right next to him. The ball was misheaded and there was a scramble in the Green Hope penalty area. The ball popped to the top of the 18 and a Fuquay player shot it into the lower left of the goal for the 1-0 lead. A disturbing trend this season where the other team's first and sometimes only shot ends up in the back of the Falcon net.
Green Hope was stunned, but motivated to come back. The Falcon's pressed the attack and Kyle Bandy was through on a 1-on-1 to the Fuquay keeper, but Kyle was taken down in the box. Magnus Sorensen stepped up and convert the PK for the 1-1 tie. The half ended tied.
In the second half, the Falcons were excellent. The ball was kept on the ground, there were excellent runs by all of the players, the outside backs stopped forcing it down the field and many chances were created. The Falcon midfield started to dominate the game. One of the Falcon center backs, Nick Butterly, using his gifted vision, saw Kyle Bandy sneak through the Fuquay defense from the right side. Nick played a 60-yard driven ball on a line through the Fuquay defense and Kyle knocked it home for the 2-1 lead.
Finally, Magnus Sorensen played a penetrating ball that was perfectly weighted to Justin Smith, who scored for the second time in 2 games.
Green Hope continued to pressure, but stellar play by the Fuquay keeper kept the score 3-1. The Falcons wrap up the season next week starting with Monday's fixture against Lee County at home. |
